We interview Paco Ruano, president of Lleuresport, a Barcelona-based organization with over 30 years of history that has firmly committed to a socially inclusive approach to sports management. “We’ve understood that we must actively reach out to those who face greater challenges accessing sports, not just wait for them to come,” says Ruano. His vision blends sustainability, technological innovation, and health, with initiatives like the creation of the Innovation Manager role and energy efficiency improvements in facilities. The organization is now fully focused on the sports sector, aiming to grow within the concession management field.

On March 11 and 12, Barcelona became the epicenter of sports sustainability with the in-person meeting of the European ESMIS project. The 12th EFISport conference included, as a novelty, international experiences on sustainable measures and innovation in energy efficiency thanks to the European project ESMIS, in which INDESCAT participated. The annual event, which also focused on new technologies applied to energy efficiency in sports facilities, was organised by INDESCAT and had Sports & Landscape as its main sponsor and Fluidra as a corporate sponsor. During the event, which was held on 12 March at the Espai Endesa in Barcelona and was attended by more than 160 professionals, it was also possible to visit the EFISport Marketplace, where solutions, products and services for the maintenance and implementation of energy efficiency measures were presented.

On Thursday 6 March, INDESCAT brought together different universities and sports training centres affiliated to INDESCAT to share information and needs, design possible joint projects and provide solutions to the future challenges facing the sector in particular.
